Shawnee overcame five errors Monday to topple El Reno 8-4.
Victorious pitcher Kylee Thompson, who went 6 2/3 innings, gave up six hits. Thompson didn’t issue a base on balls and struck out two.
El Reno left 10 runners on base.
McKenzie Cooper was Shawnee’s offensive sparkplug with a 4-of-4 performance — a double, a triple, two singles, three runs batted in, one run scored and two stolen bases. She had a two-run double in the fifth as Shawnee assumed a 5-1 advantage.
Thompson chipped in with a double, a single and two runs. She scored in both the fourth and fifth innings.
Alexis Freeman of Shawnee doubled and scored in the first inning.
Three of El Reno’s four runs were unearned. Shawnee had three errors in the seventh as El Reno scored twice.
“Kylee came in and did a good job and we got some timely hits,” Shawnee head coach Todd Boyer said. “McKenzie also had a big night. We have to do a better job late in the game.
“But we won and it’s another step forward. We hope to continue moving in that direction.”
Shawnee, 5-9, will entertain Seminole in a 5 p.m. varsity/junior-varsity doubleheader today.
