Class A’s top-ranked Dale Pirates rang up 14 hits in pummeling Class B’s No. 12 Tupelo, 11-1, Monday.
Tanner Nelson led the offensive charge at 3-for-4 with a triple, and Taylor Smith, Xavier Lanham and Gage Ross each went 2-for-4 for the Pirates. Smith clubbed a home run, while Lanham notched a double.
Evan Anderson and Chase Byndas also got a double as the Pirates improved to 21-3.
Head coach Jerry Sanford employed three pitchers in the full seven-inning outing, and starter Jace Wilkins picked up the win to move to 5-1. He fanned seven and walked one.
Hunter Pinkston, in two innings of relief, gave up both of Tupelo’s hits while whiffing four batters and walking two.
Anderson closed, recording five strikeouts and no walks.
Each team committed one error.
Dale will host a district tournament Thursday and Friday. The field will include Calumet and Olive, who will square off at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Dale will take on the loser at 4:30 p.m.
