Asher and Latta were limited to one hit apiece Monday, but it was Class B’a second-ranked Indians that came out on top with a 5-3 win over Class A’s sixth-ranked Panthers.
Latta led 3-0 after two innings before falling behind to the Indians 4-3 in the top of the third. Asher tacked on the insurance run in the top of the seventh.
Zach Fowler picked up Asher’s lone hit — an RBI single in the third frame. The two teams combined for 10 errors (eight for Latta, two for Asher).
Tanner Andrews threw all seven innings for the Indians. He gave up three walks and struck out five in moving to 5-1.
“Hopefully our best baseball is to come,” said Asher skipper Shane Coker. “I don’t feel like we’ve played our best baseball yet.”
Asher (15-5) will host Stonewall at 4:30 p.m. today, and will then host a district tournament Thursday and Friday with Earlsboro and Wapanucka.
