Dale, ranked third in Class 2A, got three runs in the top of the eighth inning Monday to break a 5-all tie and defeat Class 4A’s No. 4 Bethel 8-5.
The Lady Wildcats struck first with a run in the bottom of the first, and the game was knotted at 4 by the end of three frames.
Bethel led 5-4 coming out of the fourth, and the game was tied again after six innings. A scoreless seventh forced the extra frame.
Taylor Powell remained unbeaten as she surrendered 11 hits and no walks. She struck out six.
Brayden Cole absorbed the loss — her first of the season — after coming on to relieve starter Kim Herron in the fourth. Herron struck out two and plunked one, and Cole finished with one strikeout and no walks.
Sam Barry and Danielle Dockrey led Dale’s nine-hit offense with three knocks apiece. Barry clubbed a double, and later picked up a two-run triple in the eighth.
Dockrey finished with three singles and drove in an eighth-inning run.
Dale’s Taylor Anderson recorded two base hits.
For Bethel, Montana Price and Makayla Whitten each went 3-for-4. Price got a double and two singles and drove in a pair of runs, and teammate Bry Flanagan came away with a two-bagger. Liz Deshields drove in two runs — one on a single and one on a sacrifice fly — and Herron hit an RBI double.
Dale, now 29-3, received a district bye and will host Class 3A Perry for one seven-inning game at 6 p.m. Thursday. Bethel (20-4) will host Byng at 5 p.m. today for a varsity/junior varsity doubleheader.
