  • Shawnee's varsity volleyball crew, ranked seventh in Class 5A, ran their record to 20-9 Tuesday with a 3-0 outing against Carl Albert at the Shawnee High School Performing Arts and Athletic Center.
The Lady Wolves posted wins of 25-22, 25-19 and 25-16.
"As a team we served aggressively," said SHS head coach Julia Holland. "Summer Skillern, Karoline Wiens, Alex Berry and Taylor Britt all served aggressively to get early points."
Britt led Shawnee in kills with a baker's dozen. Berry and Skillern each collected four.
"Overall, we passed decently," Holland said. "We ran several offenses. Taylor was smart with her hitting."
Shawnee's freshmen also defeated Carl Albert Tuesday, 25-17 and 25-23. The SHS junior varsity won 25-6 and 25-14.
Shawnee topped host Noble Monday, 25-11, 25-4 and 25-12, and the Lady Wolves took second place over the weekend at the Bartlesville Invitational.
Shawnee opened the invitational with wins over Bishop Kelley's JV squad (26-24, 23-25, 25-12, 25-19) and Putnam City (25-10, 25-22, 24-26, 25-14), and the Lady Wolves later bested Enid in five sets to end pool play (25-13, 22-25, 17-25, 25-14, 15-8).
Shawnee took down semifinals opponent Collinsville (25-23, 25-18, 25-10), but fell to host Bartlesville in five sets in the title round (22-25, 25-21, 25-19, 16-25, 8-15).
This was Shawnee's third year to compete in the Bartlesville Invitational. The Lady Wolves beat the hosts last year to claim the crown.
Shawnee will go to Piedmont Thursday. The freshmen will play at 5 p.m., and the JV match will begin at 6 p.m. The varsity teams will face off at 7 p.m.
