  • The Quilting Guild from the Family Motor Coach Association presented more than 100 quilts to the Spinning Spools Quilting Guild of Shawnee.

The quilts will be donated to the Department of Human Services, Baby First and the Salvation Army.

The Quilt Guild makes quilts as they travel and 70 percent will go to local organizations wherever the rally happens to be, in this case Shawnee.

“They distribute them to local non-profits,” Julian Lightfoot, Quilt Captain with the Six-State Rally Association, said.

The remaining 30 percent goes to Fisherhouses in San Antonio. These places assist soldiers returning from overseas, and their families, Lightfoot said.

In addition, Spinning Spools Quilt Guild of Shawnee makes quilts for Habitat for Humanity homes and newborns each year.

“As a guild, we have made a quilt or two for every habitat home,” Evelyn Pipkin, Spinning Spools president, said.

In addition, the guild makes about 100 baby quilts each year, Pipkin said.
