Senior tailback Trenton Newson ran for 249 yards on 21 carries and scored three touchdowns as the fourth-ranked Seminole Chieftains remained unbeaten with a 48-24 District 3A-2 football victory over 11th-ranked Sequoyah-Claremore Friday night.
Newson had scoring runs of 52, 6 and 47 yards - all in the second half - as Seminole improved to 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in the district.
Seminole piled up 484 yards of total offense, including 428 on the ground, as Doc Harvey finished with 65 yards on just three attempts while Papi White ended up with 53 yards on only five tries.
Harvey had a 63-yard TD run for the Chieftains’ first score in the opening quarter while White had touchdown runs of 34 and 11 yards and was 6-of-7 on his extra-point kicks.
Seminole also received a 78-yard kickoff return for a TD by Stefan Wright.
Sequoyah-Claremore quarterback Daniel Moniz was 14-of-24 passing for 148 yards and one touchdown with one interception. Trey Ervin picked off the pass for the Chieftains.
Moniz scored off a 1-yard run and fired a short 2-yard touchdown pass to Garret Shepherd. Sequoyah’s other two scores came off a 65-yard kickoff return by Colten Graves and a 33-yard field goal from Chance Shultz.
Sequoyah netted 99 yards on 27 attempts on the ground.
Seminole, 4-0, hosts Bethany for another district clash next Friday at 7:30 p.m.
