  • Shawnee City Commissioners met Monday night and appointed several new members to various authorities.

Will Smallwood and Todd Fisher were appointed to terms with the Oklahoma Baptist University Authority. Commissioners Linda Agee and James Harrod were appointed to the Shawnee Economic Development Foundation.

Commissioners approved city staff to advertise for bids to repave the walking track at the Shawnee Regional Airport. Commissioners also approved the city to contract with BDC Homes for removal of snow and ice from streets.

This will be used in emergency situations, Pottawatomie/Shawnee Emergency Manager Don Lynch said.

“We will only use that as the street superintendent sees fit in a snow emergency,” Lynch said.

Also during the meeting, Mayor Wes Mainord announced that “Fire Prevention Week” will take place from Oct. 7-13.

The Shawnee Municipal Authority deferred two bids to the next meeting. These include a bid for a THM analyzer, which will test the water and ensure it is clean, and the other is a replacement screw pump project. This will replace the screws which help move the water at the northside water plant, Utilities Director Jim Bierd said.
