Awards were presented to various Pottawatomie County 4-H members and volunteers during the 4-H banquet Tuesday night.
The banquet, hosted at the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center in Shawnee, was sponsored by Shawnee Kiwanis.
Angel Wade, a 4-H state council member from Ponotoc County, spoke during the banquet.
She encouraged her fellow 4-H members to "inspire, take action, and have heart."
Wade described her beginning in 4-H. She joined when she was 9 years old, and she was very shy.
"Although I was opinionated, I was too scared to voice it," Wade said.
She was told she would have to give a speech.
"I laughed, thinking that there is no way I would ever give a speech," Wade said.
Through hard work and determination, and help from her fellow 4-H'ers, Wade was able to overcome her fear of speaking.
"My dream was not accomplished just by my determination, but also the heart of everyone around me in this program," she said.
After the speech, several awards were given, including County Medals, Project Club Awards, Farm Bureau Awards and volunteer awards.
Outstanding First Year 4-H'ers awards, which were presented by Rene Underwood, were presented to Kenna Lee and Jace Milburn.
Outstanding Junior 4-H'ers awards, which were presented by Angela Dockery, were awarded to Seth Jackson and Kiara Foster.
Outstanding Senior 4-H'ers awards, which were presented by Faye Stone, were presented to DeLacy Dockrey and Ansley Elliott.
Holli Jackson and Faye Stone were named County Volunteers of the Year, and Audrey Seeliger of the United Way was also recognized for volunteer efforts with 4-H.
