  • Shawnee may see some severe weather this weekend, and potentially some tornadoes as well.
A storm system is heading east from the Rocky Mountains and is expected to bring large hail and damaging winds, Ryan Barnes, meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said.
“There is a slight chance for tornadoes,” Barnes added.
The highest chances for storms will be Saturday afternoon and evening, he said.
“The main threat is going to be wind and hail,” Barnes added.
The system is expected to be gone by Sunday.
“By Sunday we should start to see some rapid clearing,” Barnes said.
Chances for rain on Sunday are zero, he said.
The high for Saturday is 73 degrees, with a low of 56 degrees. Chances for rain are at 70 percent.
Sunday’s low is 52 degrees, with a high of 79 degrees.
Shawnee has received .29 inches of rain since Friday.
