  • The Oklahoma Board of Education approved the release of the A-F report cards for schools Thursday afternoon.

The report cards were set to be released at the Oct. 8 meeting earlier this month, however the board moved to delay the release due to concerns over the way the grades are calculated.

Shawnee High School was the only school to receive a B.

Student achievement, worth 33 percent, is based directly on student tests in four subjects: English, math, biology, and history. The school received an A average.

Overall student growth was given an A as well. The category is based on two components. Overall student growth measures the growth of all the students based on their previous test scores as compared to the current scores, and Bottom Quartile Student Growth is based on the bottom 25 percent of student test scores that were unsatisfactory or below which have risen.

Shawnee High School received an A on both components.

The final component, Whole School Performance, is based on a variety of things including graduation rates, advanced coursework participation and performance, and ACT participation and performance.

Shawnee High School received a B in this category, with a D in advanced coursework participation and a C in college entrance exam participation.

Shawnee Middle School was given a C overall, with a C in the Student Achievement Portion and a B in Whole School Performance.

Overall Student Growth received a C and Bottom Quartile growth received an F.

All four Shawnee elementary schools were given an overall C.

Jefferson Elementary received a C in Student Achievement, an A in Whole School Performance, and a D in Overall Student Growth. Bottom Quartile received an F.

Sequoyah Elementary was given a B in Student Achievement and an A in Whole School Performance. Overall Student Growth received a C and Bottom Quartile was given an F.

Horace Mann Elementary received a C for Overall Student Growth and an F for Bottom Quartile. The school was given a B for Whole School Performance and a C for Student Achievement.

Will Rogers Elementary received an A for Whole School Performance and a C for Student Achievement. Overall student growth was given a D, and Bottom Quartile was given an F.
