Shawnee police have made an arrest in a homicide investigation launched Friday morning after a body was found inside a home near downtown Shawnee.
What began as a postal carrier reporting smoke at 709 E. 11th led to the discovery of a body inside that home Friday morning, Chief Russell Frantz said.
Damage from the fire was minimal at the home. Police have crime scene tape surrounding the home and are treating the death as a homicide. An investigation is ongoing.
Frantz, who confirmed the body is that of man, said it looks like the case involves a possible assault and a fire being set, although it will be up to the medical examiner to determine cause and manner of death.
The investigation is ongoing.
