  • City commissioners voted Monday to approve contractual salary increases for the city manager and city attorney.

The contracts were on the commission agenda before the new commission was seated, however, commissioner James Harrod requested the items wait until after the new commissioners were seated.

The contracts said raises were due July 1, and as such the city manager and city attorney will be paid retroactively, Mayor Wes Mainord said.

“That’s all we’re doing is fulfilling the contract,” Mainord said.

City Manager Brian McDougal said he will receive a 5 percent increase, but was unsure of what City Attorney Mary Ann Karns’ increase would be.

“I’m just very pleased that the commissioners are happy with us,” McDougal said.

Karns was unavailable for comment Wednesday because she was out of the office, her assistant Celia Elwell said.

Finance Director Cindy Sementelli was out of the office Wednesday, and was unable to give exact salaries at press time.

City Clerk Phyllis Loftis declined to give the exact percentage for Mary Ann Karns’ increase because it was discussed during executive session.
