Oklahoma Baptist flexed its muscle Saturday, taking the Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball tournament championship in three sets over Wayland Baptist. The Lady Bison capped its second straight conference title with a 25-20, 25-20, 25-15 victory. Skyler Strahm had a team-best 10 kills, while Kristin Pressley added nine. Tournament MVP Sabra Clark had 30 assists and Pressley contributed three aces. Defensively, the Lady Bison got 15 digs each from Gabby Samuels and Clark and 14 from Pressley, while Strahm had two blocks. Shahala Hawkins led the Pioneers with nine kills, while Natasha Giacomazzi added 24 assists. Joining Clark on the All-Conference team were Tarah Derden of OBU, Hawkins and Giacommazi of Wayland Baptist, Audrey Dierien of John Brown and Cailtin Kender of Lubbock Christian. With the victory, OBU established a school record with 32 wins this season, improving to 32-4. With the strong finish, OBU is not expected to lose any ground in the final poll before the NAIA Tournament, meaning the No. 10 Lady Bison should be able to forgo an opening-round event and go directly to the final national tournament site in Sioux City, Iowa. If that is the case, the next action for OBU would be in national tournament pool play Nov. 27. Note: Report provided by Ray Fink, OBU sports information director.
