  • The All-Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball team reflected strongly the final standings with Oklahoma Baptist leading with four special awards and four first-team selections.

  • The All-Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball team reflected strongly the final standings with Oklahoma Baptist leading with four special awards and four first-team selections. OBU junior Kristin Pressley was named Most Valuable Player for the second season in a row. She also is Hitter of the Year. Also for OBU, Sabra Clark was tabbed Setter of the Year and coach Anna Howle was named Coach of the Year. Other special awards went to Nikki Ralston of Lubbock Christian as Libero of the Year and Wayland Baptist’s Grecia Rivera and Shahala Hawkins were named Newcomer of the Year and Freshman of the Year, respectively. Pressley, an outside hitter from Mansfield, Texas, ranks fifth nationally in kills per game and averaged 4.5 kills and 3.8 digs per set. Clark, a senior from Andover, Kan., averaged a SAC-leading 10.1 assists per game. Howle, in her fifth season at OBU, engineered a second consecutive perfect conference record and 30-win season. Ralston, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., led the SAC with 4.8 digs per game this season. Hawkins, an outside hitter from Denver City, Texas, averaged three kills per set while Rivera, a sophomore from Mexico, averaged three digs per set for the Pioneers. Joining those five players on the All-SAC First Team are Gabby Samuels and Skyler Strahm of OBU, Kacey Deterding and Caitlin Kender of Lubbock Christian, Natasha Giacomazzi of Wayland Baptist, Audrey Dearien of John Brown and Hanna Mitcham of Oklahoma City. The Second Team consists of Tarah Derden of OBU, Maddie Johnson, Tori Velasquez and Melia Wood of LCU, Chelsey Driskell of WBU, Erin McIlroy of JBU, Meghan Irwin and Danielle Robinson of Oklahoma City, Joey Redwine, Yasmine Lopez and Kimberly Sieler of St. Gregory’s and Becca Anderson and Callie Solie of Mid-America Christian. Honorable mention selections are Patricia Moura and Carey Strong of OBU, Amy Edwards and Brittany Johnson of LCU, Jaharys Archilla of WBU, Tori Leisure and Rachel Gabel of OCU, Staci Williamson and Kailey Bain of JBU, Tiphani Funk, Morgan Brown and Aminah Orazco of St. Gregory’s and Taryn Walker of MACU.
