  • Despite a game-high 21 points from Fayzon Richey, the St. Gregory's men suffered a 73-54 setback to East Central University Saturday night in an exhibition contest at the Kerr Activities Center. Richey, who came into the game averaging 23 points per contest, was the lone offensive bright spot for the Cavs, who made only 12 field goals during a 23 percent shooting night. The NCAA Division II Tigers led throughout the game and held a decisive advantage on the boards. ECU outrebounded SGU 55-37, including 23 on the offensive end. SGU made only one of its first 13 shots and trailed by 10 midway through the first half. The Tigers extended their lead to 14 at the 5:47 mark, and the home team held that same advantage at halftime. The Cavs used a 10-2 run to cut the lead to single digits at 56-47 with just less than 10 minutes remaining, but that is as close as they would get. ECU answered with a 13-2 run over the next seven minutes to extend the lead to 20, its largest of the game. Devonte Young and Josiah Campbell each had 10 points for the Cavs. De'mario Fountain led the Lions with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting. SGU returns to action Wednesday for another exhibition contest at Oral Roberts University. That game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip.
