  • In a very low-scoring encounter Tuesday night, Dale’s Lady Pirates were the victors in a 19-13 outcome versus Latta. Neither team put up double digits in any quarter, and Dale’s Sam Barry had the game’s only successful 3-pointer. The Lady Pirates held a 9-2 first-quarter advantage, and later led 11-6 to start the second half. The score was 17-8 after three quarters. “I’m really proud of our defensive effort, but we’ve got to do a better job offensively,” said Lady Pirates head coach Josh Forsythe. “We’ll get better as we go.” Class 2A’s fifth-ranked Lady Pirates are now 2-0. Dale’s Breck Clark led all scorers with nine points. She went 3-for-4 on free throws, and Barry went 2-for-5 to finish with five points. As a team, the Lady Pirates hit 50 percent (6-for-12) of their charity tosses. The 12th-ranked Lady Panthers were led by Laramie Edens and Sydney Brinlee at four each. Shelbey Parnacher hit all three of Latta’s free throws in a 3-for-4 effort. The Lady Pirates will travel to No. 17 Amber-Pocasset Friday night. Dale’s No. 3 Pirates were held scoreless in the fourth quarter Tuesday night in suffering a 42-31 setback to the ninth-ranked Panthers. Latta led 11-10 after one quarter, and 27-27 at the half. Dale’s Evan Anderson and Latta’s Cade Hayes were even at 12 for high-scoring honors, and the Panthers’ Jake Collins and Trent Storts posted 11 apiece. Jace Wilkins connected on two treys in adding 10 points for Dale. Anderson finished with five rebounds, and Wilkins finished with five assists. Hayes netted half of Latta’s eight 3-point successes, and six of those came in the first half. Latta was 57.1 percent (4-for-7) on free throws, while Dale was 83.3 percent (5-for-6). “It’s early and we’re still learning to play with each other,” said Dale head coach Jeff Edmonson. Now 1-1, the Pirates go to Am-Po Friday night. Note: Report compiled by Jason Smith.
