  • Sam Alvarado booted a 35-yard field goal in the fourth quarter Friday night, allowing Class 2A No. 9 Commerce to hand Meeker a season-ending 16-13 loss in the second round of the playoffs.
Meeker had the upper hand in the first half, turning a scoreless first-quarter deadlock into a 13-0 halftime advantage. Freshman quarterback Jake Standlee connected with Dallas Jackson on a 10-yard scoring pass to open the night’s scoring, and the Bulldogs’ Jesse Weaver later added a 2-yard rushing TD.
The Tigers tied the game in the third, beginning with DC Chance’s 15-yard rushing score. QB Blake Jameson later hit Angel Landeros for a 23-yard TD pass to make it 13-all and set up Alvarado’s heroics.
Meeker, after finishing in third place in District 2A-5, ends the season at 7-5.
Standlee, who finished Friday’s game with 120 rushing yards, ends the year as the Bulldogs’ leading rusher with over 1,000.
