  • Alisha Crump scored a career-high 25 points on 11-of-12 shooting, and No. 24-ranked Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) outlasted St. Gregory's University 87-79 on the first day of the Halo Classic in San Antonio Friday.

Crump, a senior forward, hit two key baskets down the stretch to propel the Saints to its third win in three tries this season.

Both teams held double-digit leads in the game, but it was neck-and-neck down the stretch.

After SGU battled back from 11 points down to tie the game at 77, OLLU went on a decisive 10-2 run to end the game. Crump was key in that span, hitting shots in the paint at the 2:26 and 1:26 marks to put the game away.

The Lady Cavs (2-4) had four players in double figures. Freshman Ayrionna Taylor led the way with 18 points. Leticia Silva had 16 points on three of six shooting.

SGU shot 44 percent from the field, but was outscored 52-28 in the paint.

SGU raced out to a 14-0 lead just four minutes in after making five of its first seven shots, including 4-for-5 from 3-point range. The Saints, however, were able to get back in the game by capitalizing on Lady Cavalier foul trouble and turnovers.

Down 23-12 at the 8:36 mark, OLLU went on a 22-7 run to take a four-point lead with just more than a minute remaining in the half.

The Lady Cavs salvaged a 35-34 halftime advantage despite 16 first-half turnovers and three starters having multiple fouls.

OLLU nearly duplicated SGU's early first-half spurt, scoring the first 11 points of the second half to go up 45-35 with 17:02 remaining. The Lady Cavs trailed by as many as 11 before slowly chipping away at the lead.

It was 72-70 with 4:32 remaining when Taylor tied it with what turned out to be her last field goal of the game.

SGU returns to action today on the second day of the Halo Classic. The Lady Cavs play St. Thomas-Houston at 2 p.m.
