  • Oklahoma Baptist improved to 3-1 Friday with a 78-47 win over Southwestern Christian in women’s basketball action, despite a couple of injuries that could prove costly.

  • Oklahoma Baptist improved to 3-1 Friday with a 78-47 win over Southwestern Christian in women’s basketball action, despite a couple of injuries that could prove costly.
     
    Point guard Allie Brandenburg was injured and lay motionless on the floor for several minutes and was taken away on a stretcher by emergency personnel. Early postgame reports were that a CAT scan was clear and Brandenburg was regaining feeling in her arms.
     
    Shooting guard Bretlin Gabelmann sustained a knee injury but early indications are that the damage is not serious.
     
    Four Lady Bison reached double figures in the scoring column, led by Charity Fowler with 22 points. Gabelmann had 17, while Jalissa Council and Lilia Inoubli had 10 apiece.
     
    Southwestern Christian, which joins OBU in the Sooner Athletic Conference next season, was led by a 12-point, 11-rebound outing by Jordan Gooch.
     
    The Lady Bison out-rebounded the Eagles, 49-39, with Janell Beacham rounding up nine rebounds to lead OBU. Beacham also had a game-high four assists.
     
    OBU trailed early but used a 16-2 run to build a 20-6 lead. Gabelmann had two three-pointers in that run.
     
    The first half lead peaked at 19 points, 34-15, on a basket by Fowler at the 2:04 mark of the half. The Lady Bison led at intermission, 37-19.
     
    OBU led by as many as 33 in the second half.
     
    Now 3-1 on the season, the Lady Bison host No. 20 Avila at 6 p.m., Saturday.
