Friday’s season openers for Chandler were also 66 Conference games and both were losses as the Lions and Lady Lions fell to visiting Okemah. Six-foot-2 Kiyoshi Henderson scored a game-high 27 points for the Chandler girls, but it wasn’t nearly enough as the Lady Panthers prevailed, 60-53. Chandler had a 33-32 lead at halftime, but was outscored 28-20 down the stretch. Rayna Harjo led Okemah with 15 points and Mary Turner also reached double digits with 10 points. After Henderson on the Chandler scoring, it was Jasmine Gregg with 11 points. Sarah Key, Madison Kimble and Bailey Wilson each added four points. The boys’ game followed pretty much the same script. Chandler outscored the Panthers 19-9 in the second quarter and took a 26-22 lead into the locker room, but faltered in the second half. Cody Campbell had a game-high 23 points but was the only Lion in double figures. Rodney Lewis scored five while Mubarak Hisham and Cole Snyder added four apiece. Justin Guinn paced the Panthers with 16 points. Both Chandler teams will play their second games Thursday in the OBU Invitational. The boys will face Tecumseh at 6 p.m., followed by the Lady Lions against McLoud at 7:30. Note: Report compiled by Brian King.
