Fayzon Richey scored 23 points and grabbed nine boards as the St. Gregory's University men's basketball team cruised to a 95-52 win Friday over Johnson & Wales (Colo.) University on the first day of the Southwestern Christian University Classic. The Cavaliers never trailed in picking up their fifth consecutive victory.
Richey, a senior from El Reno, scored more than 20 points for the sixth time in eight games this season. He has been the Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Week for two weeks in a row. Richey finished only 4 of 14 from the field but was able to get to the charity stripe where he was 13-for-13.
The Cavs used a strong defensive effort to dispatch of the Wildcats. SGU led 36-20 at halftime after holding JWU to only 25 percent from the field. The Wildcats finished at 29 percent for the game.
SGU (6-2) led by as many as 44 in the second half and shot 48 percent for the game. In addition to Richey, three other Cavs were in double figures. Dylan Lemley finished with 14 points on 5 of 9 shooting and Devonte Young had 13 points and six assists. Junior forward Brock Vorwald chipped in with 12 points and nine rebounds.
SGU plays Southwestern Christian Saturday at 8 p.m. in the final game of the Classic.
