Shawnee got five wins by fall Tuesday as the Wolves edged the McAlester Buffaloes 42-39 to start the season at 1-0 on duals. Bryce O’Connor, at 113 pounds, took down Miguel Spencer in 3:49, and 152-pound entrant Corey Todd pinned the hosts’ Billy Mann in 2:51. Also recording falls for Shawnee were Matt Daniel (170) in 30 seconds over Jeremiah Garner; Thomas Shepard (182) in 1:56 over Connor Enoxl; and Walker Smith (220) in 27 seconds over Colton Harden. The Wolves picked up two wins by forfeit, at 145 pounds and 160 pounds, but gave up four matches via forfeit. Shawnee also suffered two losses by fall and one by decision. “Our backs were against the wall, and our kids found a way to win. I’m proud of them,” said SHS head coach Larry James. In the Del City Tournament Nov. 30, Shawnee picked up first-place outings from Daniel, O’Connor and Smith. Shawnee will go to Stillwater Dec. 13, and the Wolves will not have their home opener until Jan. 8 against Chickasha. Note: Report compiled by Jason Smith.
