Alan Brewer netted three of his four treys in the third quarter, and later connected on both ends of a one-and-one trip to the foul line as Class 4A’s No. 14 Tecumseh nipped Ada 64-59 in Saturday’s championship game of the Bison Invitational at Oklahoma Baptist University.
Brewer notched a game-high 23 points, and was joined by teammates Colton Owen and Julio Hukill in being named to the all-tournament team.
The tale of two halves began with an 18-15 first-quarter lead for Ada’s Cougars, who then dished out 22 second-quarter points to lead 40-28 at the break.
Refusing to throw in the towel, the Savages out-gunned their opponents 15-14 in the third quarter, then unloaded for a 21-5 run over the final eight minutes of play.
The score was 62-59 in Tecumseh’s favor with just 37 seconds to go, and the Cougars were hit with a steal on their end of the court that led to Brewer’s one-and-one with 21 ticks left.
The Cougars failed to connect on a 3-point field goal on their ensuing possession, and the Savages recovered the ball and ran out the clock.
Ada’s John Stout and Cory Kilby were each named to the all-tournament team, as were Clint Simmons of Bethel, Jacob Magruder of McLoud, Casey Freeman of Newcastle and Cody Waitt of Perkins-Tryon.
Stout led the Cougars with 22 points in the title game, and Kilby added 21.
Tecumseh dropped Chandler 54-42 in the opening round of the invitational Thursday, then hit semifinals opponent Newcastle with a 55-34 loss Friday.
The Savages will go to Byng Tuesday.
