  • Shawnee fell behind 11-4 in the first quarter Saturday, and trailed 30-18 at halftime en route to suffering a 53-38 setback to Deer Creek in the third-place game of the Durant Tournament. The Wolves trailed 45-31 going into the final eight minutes of play. “We have to credit their coaches for getting their team to play at a higher level than we got our team to play at today,” said SHS coach Ron Arthur. “They (Deer Creek) just had more fire than we did as they took advantage of our defensive mistakes.” The Wolves, ranked 19th in Class 5A, fell to 1-4 on the season. Luke Laster led Shawnee with eight points Saturday, and teammates Theo Berry, Trey Maston and Austin Cooper added six each. Shawnee will get a rematch with the 14th-ranked Deer Creek Antlers at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Wolves’ home opener. Note: Report compiled by Jason Smith.
