Dave Ramsey offers advice for a honeymoon you can afford

Dear Dave,

Iím getting married soon and we want to book a honeymoon trip. We canít pay for it up front, but we could in a few weeks. Our travel agent recommended getting a zero-percent interest credit card and booking the trip now. What kind of card would you recommend?

Dave Says: I donít recommend credit cards of any kind. In fact, thereís not a single one on the planet Iíd advise getting, under any circumstances. The only thing credit cards are good for is maybe opening a locked door or scraping frost off a windshield.

I carry three pieces of plastic: a business debit card, a debit card for my personal account, and my driverís license. With a debit card, the money comes straight from your checking account. You donít go into debt using it, and there are no worries about interest payments or late fees. Itís really simple, Laura. If you canít hand over the cash, you canít afford it. My advice is to save up. Work an extra job for a little while. Then go on a honeymoon you can afford!
