    Dear Dave,
I’m getting married soon and we want to book a honeymoon trip. We can’t pay for it up front, but we could in a few weeks. Our travel agent recommended getting a zero-percent interest credit card and booking the trip now. What kind of card would you recommend?

Dave Says: I don’t recommend credit cards of any kind. In fact, there’s not a single one on the planet I’d advise getting, under any circumstances. The only thing credit cards are good for is maybe opening a locked door or scraping frost off a windshield.
I carry three pieces of plastic: a business debit card, a debit card for my personal account, and my driver’s license. With a debit card, the money comes straight from your checking account. You don’t go into debt using it, and there are no worries about interest payments or late fees. It’s really simple, Laura. If you can’t hand over the cash, you can’t afford it. My advice is to save up. Work an extra job for a little while. Then go on a honeymoon you can afford!
