  • Bethel’s unranked girls took advantage of a cold shooting night by third-ranked (Class 2A) Dale and forged a 49-44 two-overtime upset Tuesday night. “Our girls followed the game plan really well. Both teams did great defensively, but we were glad to get the edge,” Bethel head coach Jennifer Lynch said. “It was a real big win for us.” After regulation play ended in a 34-34 stalemate, both teams netted six points in the first OT. Bethel then out-scored the Lady Pirates 9-4 in the second extra stanza. Mikayla Whitten led Bethel with 16 points, five of which came after regulation. Dale connected on just 9-of-53 shots from the floor for 17 percent. The Lady Pirates were only 5-of-41 from 2-point range. Lynch credited Morgan Davenport’s stellar defense for helping to shut down the Dale offense, especially key cog Breck Clark. Clark led Dale, 7-1, with 16 points and six rebounds. Clark also notched five points after regulation. “We kept fighting because they led most of the game,” Dale coach Josh Forsythe said. “They played a little harder than we did.” The Class 2A sixth-ranked Pirates fared better than their counterparts in the late game, running out to a 32-13 halftime lead and closing out the Wildcats, 52-37. Dustin Stark caught fire from beyond the arc to lead the charge, nailing six treys — five in the first half. Stark finished with 18 points. “We had a good first half,” Dale coach Jeff Edmonson said. “I was worried we might be a little flat from being off so long, but I’ll take that [our hot shooting night] any day.” Evan Anderson led the Pirates with 20 points, and Jace Wilkins notched six points, eight assists and five rebounds. Garrett Fitzgerald poured in 15 for the visitors. Trevor Stark added 11. The win moves Dale to 6-1 on the year. Dale will entertain Christian Heritage Friday night.
