McKenzie Cooper and Micaela Yu each dropped in 23 points as Class 5A’s third-ranked Shawnee Lady Wolves downed Springdale (Ark.) Har-Ber, 58-51, Friday at Tulsa Union High School. The Lady Wolves fell behind 20-14 in the first quarter, but shut down the Lady Wildcats in the second to take a 28-20 lead into the half. Shawnee led 42-38 after three quarters. “In the first quarter, we just came out really flat. We weren’t aggressive,” said SHS coach Wendi Wells. “We’re a young team. We have to work to play disciplined. We didn’t guard very well tonight. “But, it’s a young team, and we’ll get back to work and be ready for Ada on Tuesday.” Ada, ranked 13th in Class 4A, will invade the Shawnee High School Performing Arts and Athletic Center Tuesday. That game will tip off at 6:30 p.m. Cooper and Yu combined for a 12-for-17 effort from the free throw line against Har-Ber, and Cooper and Monique Tramble each had five assists on the night. Bailey Taylor, who supplied two 3-point field goals and 10 total points, led Shawnee in rebounds with eight. Yu, Tramble and Kelsey Simmons each pulled down four boards, and Shaiann Tramble had four assists. Three Lady Wildcats reached double figures. The Lady Wolves are 6-1.
