  • Shawnee will close out the pre-Christmas portion of its schedule with home games today against Suburban Conference foe Guthrie.

The girls will tip of at 6:30 p.m., and the boys’ game will follow.

The defending state champion Shawnee Lady Wolves, after starting the season ranked third, were bumped to first in Class 5A earlier this week. They enter tonight’s contest with a 7-1 record, and they are 2-0 in conference play.

This will be the first match-up of the season between the Lady Wolves and Lady Bluejays, who are ranked 19th in 5A.

The Lady Wolves hold a three-game winning streak following a setback to Bixby in the finals of the Bixby Tournament earlier this month.

Shawnee’s Wolves, now 1-7 with Tuesday’s 55-51 setback to visiting Ada, fell out of the top 20 in 5A this week. They started the season ranked 19th.

The Wolves have fallen four times this season by four or less points, and three of those have come in their last three outings.

Guthrie’s boys are ranked 14th in Class 5A.
Following the Christmas break, Shawnee will resume play at El Reno on Jan. 8.

In other Tri-County encounters tonight, Tecumseh will play a pair of make-up games at Jones. The games were originally scheduled for Dec. 4, but were rescheduled because of the Longhorns involvement in the Class 3A football playoffs.

Tecumseh’s undefeated Savages (8-0) are ranked ninth in Class 4A, while Class 3A Jones is unranked. The Lady Savages are 3-4 following Tuesday’s 44-16 win over visiting McLoud.

Lincoln County rivals Prague and Chandler will square off tonight in Prague. Prague’s Lady Red Devils, 6-1 after edging Holdenville Tuesday, are ranked seventh in Class 3A.

Prague’s boys are 4-3 after dropping Holdenville by a 64-40 count, and are ranked 20th.
    Neither Chandler team is ranked.

Note: Dale’s boys will play Dec. 27-29 in the Tournament of Champions at Oral Robert University.
