Wolves fourth at invitational

Daylan Stuteville went 8-0 over two days, including six wins by fall, and the Shawnee Wolves finished fourth out of a dozen teams Saturday at the Trey Culotta Invitational at Brother Martin High School.

Stuteville, at 151 pounds, went 5-0 on Friday.

“He wrestled extremely well this weekend,” said SHS head coach Larry James.

Teams from Texas, Alabama, Tennessee and Louisiana competed in the two-day event. Shawnee was the only team from Oklahoma.

“It’s a real good tournament,” James said. “The kids get a lot of matches.”

Host Brother Martin took first in the team standings.

Only six points separated second, third and fourth place.

“It was a dogfight for second,” James said.

Three Wolves came away as runners-up. Bryce O’Connor (113) finished the event at 5-3, while Michael Smith (120) and Gage Humphrey (195) each finished at 7-1.

Walker Smith, at 182 pounds, went 6-2 for third place.

Others competing for Shawnee were Nick Poncho (106), eighth place at 3-5; Cameron Comer (132), 3-4 and did not place; Clayton Stafford (138), seventh place at 3-4; Corey Todd (145), fourth place at 5-3; Matt Daniels (160), fifth place at 5-3; Thomas Shephard (170), sixth place at 4-4; Robert Selumber (220), seventh place at 3-5; and Ryan Goodfox (heavyweight), fifth place at 6-2.

Shawnee will resume its regular season Jan. 8 against visiting Chickasha.
