Despite a strong first half and a dozen points apiece from Jace Wilkins and Dustin Stark, the Dale Pirates could not withstand a high-scoring attack from Booker T. Washington, falling 80-57 in the first round of the Tournament of Champions at Oral Roberts University Thursday.
“I was very proud of how we played in the first half. In the second, [Washington] kind of wore us out,” Dale coach Jeff Edmonson said. The Pirates (8-2) trailed by just two at the half and held a two-point advantage over the hometown Hornets as late as the third quarter.
Washington’s Juwan Parker led all scorers with 25. Three other Hornets also scored in double figures as Washington outscored Dale by 21 in the second half.
Stark scored all 12 of his points on 3-pointers. Evan Anderson added 10 for Dale, which will face Weleetka in the consolation bracket at 9 a.m. today.
Dale’s Caleb Banks also splashed in two treys on his way to eight points.
