  • It took three days, but the Dale boys finally got a win in the Tournament of Champions.

Evan Anderson notched his second double-double in as many days, Jace Wilkins added 17 points and the Pirates held off a fourth-quarter rally from Arnett to claim a 65-64 win in the seventh-place game Saturday at Oral Roberts University.

“I’ve ever been happier to win seventh place at a tournament before. There are a ton of good teams that come here and never win a game. It feels really good to get out of here with a win,” Dale coach Jeff Edmonson said.

The Pirates (9-3) built a slim five-point margin heading into the high-scoring fourth quarter. Dale extended the lead to double-digits before a furious rally from Arnett fell just short.

Dale never trailed in the game, and the Wildcats needed a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to set the final margin at one.

Anderson scored 20 points and snagged 10 boards a day after a 22-point, 13-rebound outing against Weleetka.

Anderson wasn’t the only Pirate with a gaudy stat line. Caleb Banks poured in 12 points, eight rebounds and four steals, while Wilkins dished out seven assists.

Wilkins was also 8-of-11 from the free-throw line.

Arnett got 88 percent of its scoring from just three players — Ryan Friesen (20 points), Trevor Bryant (19) and Tyler Tune (17).

Edmonson said the tournament was a great way to prepare for big games down the road. “It reminded me of a state tournament, the atmosphere and the level of competition,” Edmonson said.

The Pirates will start the 2013 portion of their schedule at Latta on Jan. 4.
