Meeker opened the second half of the 2012-13 basketball season with a split at Lincoln County rival Chandler Friday night.
The Lady Bulldogs, paced by Summer Powell’s game-high 20 points, recorded a 72-58 win to improve to 8-2. The Meeker boys were not as fortunate, suffering a sluggish second quarter in a 72-54 setback to the Lions.
The Bulldogs led 20-19 after the first quarter, but trailed 37-24 to open the second half.
In the girls’ game, Meeker improved on an 18-11 first-quarter lead, and went into the break with a 38-28 cushion. Also in double figures for the victors were Mariah Stansell (16), Morgan Palmer (12) and Cortney Edmonds (10).
Stansell was a rock-solid 100 percent, going 7-for-7 from the field and 2-for-2 on charity tosses.
Kiyoshi Henderson led the Lady Lions with 18 points, while teammates Bailey Wilson and Jordan Patterson provided 15 and 12, respectively.
Meeker’s boys picked up 19 points from Kevin Schilling, and 11 from Austin Watlington. Seth Jones added 10.
High-scoring honors went to Chandler’s Cody Campbell at 24. Josiah Brown recorded 20, and Rodney Lewis pitched in with 15.
It was the Lions’ second win of the season.
Meeker will visit Wellston today, with the girls tipping off at 6:30 p.m. The boys’ game will follow.
Chandler will go the Ripley Tournament beginning Jan. 10. The event will be held at Yale High School.
