The Meeker boys improved to 4-7 with an 81-56 win over Wellston Saturday and The Lady Bulldogs knocked off the Lady Tigers 50-29 for their second win in two nights.

Taylor Standlee scored a baker’s dozen for Meeker as the Lady Bulldogs rode a dominant second quarter to a 50-29 win over Wellston Saturday night.

Meeker (9-2) trailed 8-7 after the first eight minutes, but mounted a strong defensive effort to hold the Lady Tigers without a field goal in the second quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs held Wellston at arm’s length until the fourth quarter, when a 16-6 run put the game away for good.

Meeker won its second road game in as many nights, shooting 40 percent (20-50) for the game and holding the Lady Tigers to 33 percent shooting.

Cortney Edmonds notched eight points for the visitors while teammate Amaris Stanzell added seven on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting night.

The Meeker boys had a strong night as well, bouncing back from Friday’s loss at Chandler to claim an 81-56 win over Wellston on the hot shooting of Kevin Schilling.

Schilling, who poured in 23 points, led all scorers. Fellow Bulldogs Austin Watlington and Seth Jones netted a dozen apiece, while Levi Keel contributed 11.

Meeker led by two after the first quarter before detonating for 53 points over the next two quarters to shut down any chance of a Tiger comeback.

The win improves the Bulldogs to 4-7 on the season.

Meeker will head to Seminole Tuesday night.
