  • Zach Fowler poured in 27 points, Tim Johnson added 16 and Class B’s ninth-ranked Asher held off Maud 84-71 Friday.

After falling behind by five at halftime, the Indians (11-2) exploded for 27 points in the third quarter. Hunter Fowler keyed the game’s decisive run at the end of the quarter.

Locked in a tight game, Fowler knocked down a pair of treys in a matter of seconds — including one that resulted in a four-point play — to give Asher the lead for good.

“[Maud] was athletic. We were really having a hard time keeping them in front of us when we used our full-court press,” Asher head coach Lance Weeks said. “They were hard to guard.”

No Tiger was more difficult to contain than Jason Brewer, who posted 25 points. Teammates Dalton Robason and Talon Fletcher chipped in 11 and eight points, respectively.

Hunter Fowler scored 11 points and Dalton Hockley added nine for Asher, which will face Maud again next Thursday in opening round action of the Earlsboro Tournament.

Before heading to Earlsboro, the Indians will travel to 11th-ranked Varnum for a matchup with the Whippets.
