The Shawnee City Commission voted Monday evening 6-1 to approve a long awaited contract with the Greater Shawnee Area Chamber of Commerce.
Commissioner Steve Smith voted against approving the contract, after Vice-Mayor James Harrod moved to approve the contract with a second from commissioner Linda Agee.
There was no discussion on the matter.
Additionally the commission voted on two rezonings.
The first was a rezoning at 702 E. Main to allow for a soup kitchen. City Planner Justin Erickson explained that the C-3 zoning that was requested would not allow for a soup kitchen, and the applicant would need to reapply for C-4, which would allow for a variety of uses including the soup kitchen.
Commissioners voted unanimously to follow Erickson’s recommendation.
The second rezoning at the 4200 block of North Harrison, which will include a car dealership, was unanimously approved. The plat was recently placed in the flood plain by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Landes Engineering, the company selling the land, is working with FEMA to remove the land from the flood plain, and is confident it will go through.
