  • Breck Clark scored 25 points, Dale opened up a 23-point halftime lead and the Lady Pirates cruised to a 60-38 win over Wellston Tuesday night.

Dale (11-1) shot 45 percent for the game while holding the Lady Tigers to 33 percent shooting. The Lady Pirates also knocked down 10 of their 14 free throws.

Clark claimed high-scoring honors and recorded four rebounds and two steals. Teammate Lexes Satterwhite collected four boards, dished out seven assists and scored 15 points — all from downtown.

Mariah Fredman led the way for the visitors with 13, including nine from deep. Lakota Thompson chipped in a dozen.

Sam Barry notched three points and seven dimes and nabbed four caroms for Class 2A’s second-ranked Dale, which will face Strother Thursday in the opening round of the Konawa Tournament.

That game will tip at 4:20 p.m.

In the boys’ game, the Dale junior varsity defended their home court against the Wellston varsity, riding a double-double from Gunnar Hathcock to a 63-51 win.

Hathcock snared 15 boards and scored 11 points for Dale, which was forced to sit its varsity after they competed in the Tournament of Champions in Tulsa in December.

The Pirates played Jekyll and Hyde in the first half, following up an opening period where they were outscored 16-5 with a 26-6 second-quarter run to take the lead for good.

Dale’s Lane Cox was one board shy of his own double-double and led all scorers with 16 points. Fellow Pirates Brandon Draper and Blake Nowlin scored 15 and 13 points, respectively.

“These guys work hard in practice. It’s good to let them get out and play,” Dale head coach Jeff Edmonson said.

The Class 2A sixth-ranked Dale varsity will be back in action at the Konawa Tournament Thursday, taking on Holdenville in the 3 p.m. game.
