  • Lady Wildcats blister Seminole 59-23 to open tourney

  • Class 4A’s 18th-ranked Bethel held Seminole to single-digit production in all four quarters Thursday, and the host Lady Wildcats rang up a 59-23 first-round win in the annual CD Warehouse Classic.
     
    Bry Flanagan and Genna Robinson combined for 21 of the victors’ points, and no Seminole player reached double figures.
     
    Bethel led 18-9 after the first quarter, and 33-14 to start the second half. The Lady Chieftains were held to just one third-quarter point and trailed 46-15 heading into the final stretch.
     
    Maddie Perry led Seminole with six points.
     
    Bethel, now 8-3, will face Heritage Hall at 7 p.m. Friday in the semifinals. Heritage Hall hit Word of Life (Wichita, Kan.) with a 72-23 loss in Thursday’s opening round.
     
    Seminole and Word of Life will face off at 11 a.m. Friday on the consolation side of the bracket.
     
    Bethel’s boys also picked up a first-round win Thursday, dispatching Little Axe 54-27.
     
    The Wildcats led 18-4 after one quarter and 30-14 at halftime, and the Indians were held scoreless in the third quarter.
     
    Alec Delsigne paced the Wildcats with a game-high 10 points, and teammates Garrett Fitzgerald, Clinton Simmons and Trevor Stark added nine apiece. Andrew Kinnamon chipped in with eight.
     
    Payton Striplin led Little Axe with eight points.
    The Wildcats will meet semifinals opponent Byng at 8:20 p.m. Friday. Byng dropped first-round foe Newcastle, 50-35.
     
    In other games Friday, Perkins-Tryon’s Lady Demons will meet Bridge Creek at 4:20 p.m. in the semifinals, while Little Axe and Newcastle meet at 1:40 p.m. on the consolation side.
     
    Newcastle’s Racers will take on Little Axe at 12:20 p.m. Friday on the consolation side, while the Perkins-Tryon and Bridge Creek boys meet at 3 p.m. on the consolation side.
     
    Perkins-Tryon suffered a 36-35 loss to Seminole in the first round.
     
    The Chieftains will face Heritage Hall — a 51-30 winner over Bridge Creek — in Friday’s semifinals at 5:40 p.m.
