  • Tecumseh’s Savages, ranked sixth in Class 4A, ran their unblemished record to 11-0 Thursday with a 66-49 win over Oklahoma City Casady in the opening round of the SNU/Bethany Classic at Southern Nazarene University.

The Savages dominated from the tip, running up a 24-14 first-quarter lead that stretched into a halftime advantage of 38-23.

Tecumseh led 51-32 after three quarters.

“We jumped on them early, and took care of it from there,” said THS head coach Eric Litherland. “We’re playing well right now.”

The long ball once again helped the Savages’ cause as they went 8-for-17 (47.1 percent) as a team on 3-point field goals. Alan Brewer went 4-for-9 in that category in garnering 13 points, and he was joined by three teammates in reaching double figures.

Julio Hukill led Tecumseh with 16 points, and Colton Owen and Dakota Davis netted 14 and 10, respectively.

Hukill and Owen combined for a 3-for-3 effort from beyond the arc, and the Savages are now 19-for-42 on treys over their past two outings.

Davis led Tecumseh in rebounds with nine, and Owen pulled down seven. Clayton Baquera had five assists to go with his six points.

Casady’s Curtis Haywood led all scorers with 22.

Tecumseh will face Class 3A’s second-ranked Millwood at 5:30 p.m. in today’s semifinals.

Lady Antlers too much for Lady Savages

The Deer Creek Lady Antlers, ranked third in Class 5A, rode a balanced attack to stuff Tecumseh 58-28 in the first round of the SNU/Bethany Classic at Southern Nazarene University Thursday.

No player scored more than nine points for Deer Creek, but the Lady Antlers jumped out to a 19-3 lead after one quarter and coasted to the win from there.

Sam Schovanec led the Lady Savages with eight points.

Tecumseh, now 3-8 on the season, will take on Elgin in the consolation bracket at 1 p.m. today.
