Chandler’s Cody Campbell hit a game-winning 3-pointer as time expired to give the Lions a 49-48 win over Quapaw in the first round of the Ripley Tournament Thursday night.
When people say that players grow up in big games, usually they don’t mean it verbatim.
Chandler’s Cody Campbell took it literally Thursday night —his birthday — by hitting a game-winning 3-pointer as time expired to give the Lions a 49-48 win over Quapaw in the first round of the Ripley Tournament.
With 4.1 seconds left and the game tied at 46, Quapaw hit two free throws to retake the lead. Chandler was forced to inbound from its own baseline.
Campbell, who led all scorers with 25 points, got open from beyond the arc and knocked down the deciding trey as the buzzer sounded.
The game was a back-and-forth affair from the outset, as Chandler jumped out to a seven-point first-quarter lead but fell behind by one at the half and six heading into the final stanza.
Hunter Hudson and Josiah Brown each chipped in 10 for the Lions, who will take on the winner of Thursday’s Ripley-Oklahoma Bible Academy game at 8:30 p.m. Friday.
