  • Shawnee picked up steam in the late going Friday, and Class 5A’s top-ranked Lady Wolves rode a 13-9 fourth-quarter run to a 41-37 win over Choctaw in the semifinals of the East Central Oklahoma Classic.

McKenzie Cooper hit the last of her two 3-point field goals with just over a minute to play, thus setting up the rally by putting Shawnee on top by one.

The Lady Wolves led Class 6A’s No. 18 Lady Yellowjackets by a 12-5 count after one quarter, but that lead shrank to 21-19 at halftime. The score was knotted at 28 after three quarters.

Micaela Yu led Shawnee with 15 points, and Cooper finished with 13. Bailey Taylor got 10 points to go along with three assists and a team-high six rebounds.

Monique Tramble pulled down five boards, and Shaiann Tramble finished with three assists.

The Lady Wolves were 12-for-36 from the field for 33 percent, and 15-for-25 (60 percent) on free throws.

SHS coach Wendi Wells credited Shaiann Tramble and Kelsey Simmons with following through defensively, and she credited Taylor with showing a lot of versatility.

Yu “really played well for us in the paint,” Wells said.

Now 11-1, Shawnee will take on Norman North at 7 p.m. today for the tournament title.
