Bethel's boys and girls split games; Lady Chieftains to play for fifth; Seminole boys dropped into hunt for third

Bethel's boys and girls split games

A 20-point differential in the third quarter was Bethel’s undoing Friday as Class 4A’s 18th-ranked Lady Wildcats suffered a 57-43 loss to No. 9 Heritage Hall in the semifinals of the CD Warehouse Classic.

Bethel, after trailing in the first quarter, led the Lady Chargers 22-17 to start the second half. Heritage Hall reclaimed the lead, however, on a 28-8 spurt in the third.

The loss drops Bethel to 8-4 on the season and into today’s 4 p.m. third-place match with Bridge Creek. Bridge Creek was a 70-33 loser to Class 3A’s second-ranked Perkins-Tryon in the semis.

Genna Robinson and Bry Flanagan each collected 13 points for Bethel. Heritage Hall’s Carter Cloud earned high-scoring honors with 24, and teammate Erika Wakefield supplied 22.

Bethel’s boys were also dropped out of title contention Friday with a 47-41 loss to Byng. The Pirates led 15-14 after one quarter, and 30-23 at the break.

The Wildcats picked up 11 points from Matt Watson, and nine from Clint Simmons.

The Wildcats will face Seminole at 5:30 p.m. today for third place. The Chieftains fell 63-50 to Heritage Hall in the semis.

Lady Chieftains to play for fifth

Seminole’s Lady Chieftains claimed their first win in the CD Warehouse Classic, a 49-41 win over Word of Life (Kan.) in Friday’s consolation semifinals at Bethel High School.

The Lady Chieftains relied in large part on the tandem of Whitney Sinor, who finished with 16 points, and Bailee Lucas, who notched 15.

Seminole (4-6) built a seven-point advantage after one quarter and held a 27-13 edge at the half.

The Lady Chieftains then fended off a strong second half from the Fire to claim the win, which boosts them into a matchup with Newcastle for fifth-place honors Saturday.

The Lady Racers and Lady Chieftains will meet at 1 p.m.
