Tecumseh’s girls improved to 4-8 on the season Saturday by topping Western Heights 45-32 in the seventh-place match of the SNU/Bethany Classic.

The Lady Savages picked up 12 points from Hilary Babbit, and 11 from Hannah Babbit. Sutv Meely provided 10.

Tecumseh was 11-for-13 (84.6 percent) from the foul line.

“We played extremely hard,” said THS coach Amy Shelby. “It was a long weekend, and they did good things today. It was a good team effort.”

Tecumseh led 23-14 at halftime.

Tecumseh’s boys dropped their second consecutive game of the season Saturday, falling 44-42 to Bethany in the third-place match of the SNU/Bethany Classic. A scoreless second quarter was their undoing as the Savages — ranked sixth in Class 4A — led 20-10 after the first quarter.

Bethany went up 25-20 at the break.

“We’ve just taken a couple of steps back,” said Tecumseh coach Eric Litherland. “We’re not playing well. We went stagnant. If nothing else, this tournament shows we’ve got a lot of work to do.”

Colton Owen led the Savages with 14 points and seven rebounds. Alan Brewer went 3-for-9 from 3-point range for nine points, and the team was 5-for-16 from behind the arc.

Julio Hukill pulled down six boards.

Bethany’s Tanner Stiles netted a game-high 15 points.

Tecumseh will host Jones Friday, Jan. 18.
