Shawnee sales taxes are down $21,000 from last January, significantly different from the previously reported $159,123.
City Finance Director Cindy Sementelli explained that this is due to a few businesses incorrectly coding their earnings, which changed the overall number.
The Oklahoma Tax Commission was initially going to add the additional $138,000 to the next check issued, however they are instead sending a check this month, Sementelli said.
“It’s much more encouraging,” she said.
She added that although sales tax is down, $21,000 isn’t much to worry about when considering the entire budget.
“Sales tax may be down, but there’s other revenue that’s up,” Sementelli said.
Use tax, which comes from Internet sales and deliveries, is up $10,000 over this time last year, she said.
The overall budget is currently down $127,665, or 1.32 percent.
