Shawnee moved to 5-1 on duals for the season, and the Wolves are now 2-0 in district competition following a 53-15 win over host Carl Albert Thursday night.
Shawnee picked up one win by fall, and seven by forfeit.
“We found out tonight we can’t just show up; we’ve got to wrestle,” said Shawnee head coach Larry James. “We’re not wrestling well right now. We’re not good enough to just show up. They’re not going to lay down for us.
“But, we’ll regroup.”
The Wolves will take part in the Coweta Tournament today and Saturday, and will host Harrah Tuesday for the rights to compete at dual state.
The Wolves fell behind 3-0 at the onset of Thursday’s dual, but quickly took a 6-3 lead courtesy of Bryce O’Connor. The 113-pound entrant pinned Carl Albert’s Ryan Rusche in just 56 seconds.
Bailey Moon (126) recorded a 6-2 decision over the hosts’ Bryce Smith, and Gage Humphrey (195) later won by 11-4 decision over the Titans’ Thomas Schilling.
Shawnee got wins by forfeit at 120 (Michael Smith), 145 (Corey Todd), 152 (Matt Daniel), 160 (Thomas Shepherd), 220 (Robert Selumber) and heavyweight (Ryan Goodfox).
