  • Work on the Airport Walking Track is under way, according to City Engineer John Krywicki.

The repaving will widen the track to 10-feet, as well as replace portions of the fence on Airport Road. This is because the track will be moved away from the street, so the fence will be moved back as well, Krywicki said.

This is expected to increase safety, he added.

Currently, workers with Bishop Paving are removing the asphalt and this is expected to be finished by Monday, Krywicki said.

Next week they will begin base stabilization, which will make the ground beneath the newly-laid asphalt more stabile to keep the asphalt from cracking.

The workers will continue base stabilization for a week before beginning to lay the asphalt, Krywicki said.

He explained workers will only be given a week because otherwise the portions that had been stabilized previously could begin to shift, depending on weather.

Krywicki estimated the 3.75-mile trail would take about three months to completely repave.
