The Meeker Bulldogs opened up a tight game in the third quarter, hitting Wellston with a 71-43 loss and claiming a homecoming victory Friday night.
The Bulldogs’ Kevin Schilling’s scored 13 of his game-high 22 points in the third quarter, which helped Meeker (5-9) extend its four-point halftime lead to 22 heading into the fourth quarter.
“Kevin really took over in the third quarter,” MHS head coach Brad Seaborn said. “We also made the most of our free throws in the third quarter, too.”
The Bulldogs went 8-of-10 from the line in the decisive period.
Meeker’s Seth Jones scored six of his 10 points in the third quarter as well. David Kauley joined his teammates in double figures, notching 10.
The Bulldogs will head to Perkins for the 66 Conference Tournament starting Tuesday. They’ll tip off against Seminole at 5:30 p.m.
Meeker’s Lady Bulldogs pulled away from a 13-all first-quarter tie to drop Wellston 63-41 while celebrating homecoming Friday night.
The Lady Bulldogs, Class 3A’s No. 15 squad, led 35-25 at halftime and 51-28 after three quarters.
Cortney Edmonds fueled the win with 24 points, hitting 50 percent (10-for-20) of her field goals. She also grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
Summer Powell provided five rebounds and 18 points, going 6-for-14 from the field and 6-for-11 from the free throw line.
Morgan Palmer chipped in with eight points for the victors.
Meeker, 11-3, will take on Seminole at 4 p.m. Monday in the first round of the 66 Conference Tournament at Perkins-Tryon High School.
