  • Four Wolves go 3-0 on day

  • Clayton Stafford, Corey Todd, Thomas Shepard and Gage Humphrey recorded 3-0 outings Friday as the Shawnee Wolves competed in the Coweta Tournament.
     
    Those four will advance to Saturday’s finals.
     
    Stafford, at 138 pounds, dispatched first-round opponent Derek Brasel of Claremore by a 10-0 major decision. Stafford then pinned Bishop Kelley’s Jacob Nutt in 1:39 in the second round, and recorded a 7-2 decision over Wagoner’s Ryan Drake in the semifinals.
     
    Todd (145) beat Inola’s Dallas Gorman 6-2 to open the day, and pinned second-round opponent Brent Spurling of Tulsa Washington in just 39 seconds. Todd edged semifinals foe Ryan Klahr of Coweta, 13-11.
     
    Shepard, at 170, pinned Bishop Kelley’s Mitch Stinchomb in 5:09 in the opening round. He then pinned Enid’s Hank Schulz in 2:20 before notching an 8-5 decision against Ada’s Hunter Bedsole in the semis.
     
    Humphrey (195) won 2-0 in the first round against Tulsa Washington’s Robert Freeman, and then pinned Shawn Shepard of Claremore in 2:18 in the second round. Humphrey pinned Dalton Thompson of Ada in 5:38 in the semifinals.
     
    Shawnee’s Bryce O’Connor (113), after winning his first two bouts, suffered a 7-2 setback to Skiatook’s Ricky Craige in the semis to end the day at 2-1. Matt Daniel (152) also went 2-1 with an 11-3 loss to semifinals opponent Michael Hamilton of Bartlesville.
     
    Daylan Stuteville, at 160, also finished the day at 2-1 when he fell victim to a 5-0 loss to Claremore’s Bryan Short in the semifinals.
     
    “We had a bad semifinals round,” said Shawnee coach Larry James. “We thought we should have gotten three more into the finals. Our kids know we still have work to do Saturday.”
     
    The Coweta Tournament concludes Saturday.
