  • Class 4A’s seventh-ranked Tecumseh scored as many second-half points as Jones did for the entire contest, and the Savages cruised to a 78-46 homecoming win over the Longhorns Friday night.

Tecumseh led 21-10 after one quarter, and 32-19 at the break. The Savages exploded for 23 points in both the third and fourth quarters.

“We needed that game. We had four good days of practice,” said THS coach Eric Litherland, whose Savages improved to 12-2.

The Savages had been undefeated before dropping back-to-back games last week in the SNU/Bethany Classic.

“We took care of the ball,” Litherland said. “We played better, which is what we needed. These guys moved the ball well.”

Tecumseh kept the turnovers low Friday with just nine.

A host of Savages got in on the scoring parade, with Colton Owen leading the charge at 16. Julio Hukill and Dakota Davis notched 14 apiece, and Hukill made it a double-double night with a dozen rebounds.

He was 2-for-4 from 3-point range, and Darian Permetter was 2-for-2 for all six of his points.

Owen pulled down nine boards, and Davis added seven.

The Savages were 29-for-69 (42 percent) from the floor, including 7-for-23 (30.4 percent) from long range.

Tecumseh’s girls were not as fortunate in their Friday outing, scoring only 10 first-quarter points en route to a 42-26 setback to the Lady Longhorns. Jones had only 14 first-half points of its own, but opened a 27-14 lead to take into the fourth quarter.

Sam Schovanec led Tecumseh with 10 points. Dominique Bear added eight.

Tecumseh will host Prague tonight. The girls will tip off at 6:30 p.m., and the boys’ game will follow.
