  • By a combined score of 144-32, Dale High School’s Pirates and Lady Pirates cruised to a pair of lopsided wins Monday in the first round of the Tri-County Tournament at Oklahoma Baptist’s Noble Complex.

Class 2A’s second-ranked Lady Pirates (16-1) earned their spot in the semifinals by dispatching Wetumka 65-11, and the No. 5 Pirates dropped Macomb by a 79-21 count in the late game. Both Dale squads held their respective opponents scoreless in one of the four quarters.

For the Lady Pirates, Breck Clark went 8-for-10 from the free throw line and rang up a game-high 18 points. Jaelin Flewallen followed with a dozen, and Brayden Newton supplied 10.

Clark just missed a double-double, hauling in nine rebounds. She and teammates Danielle Dockrey and Raegan Holt nabbed three steals apiece, and Dockrey and Newton each collected four boards.

    Holt also provided four assists.

As a team, the Lady Pirates were a solid 15-for-20 (75 percent) on charity shots.

Dale led 14-3 after one quarter, and 27-8 at halftime. The Lady Pirates exploded for a 20-0 run in the third, thereby carrying a 47-8 lead into the final stanza.

Lexi Thomas was Wetumka’s leading scorer with seven points.

The loss drops Wetumka into a 5 p.m. contest Wednesday with Asher. Asher fell victim to Davenport Monday, 51-26.

Dale will face Class A’s No. 18 Davenport at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

In the boys’ outing Monday, 14 members of the Dale roster got in on the scoring. Evan Anderson continued his streak of double-digit production with a game-high 11 points, all in the first quarter.

The Pirates (15-3) scored the first 27 points of the game, and with a 29-4 lead going into the second quarter, head coach Jeff Edmonson began substituting liberally.

Dale extended its lead to 48-10 by the break, and Macomb’s share of the scoring ended in the third. The Hornets trailed 63-21 at that juncture.

Troy Wilson and Thomas Cope led Macomb with eight points and six, respectively, including two shots each from 3-point range.

Dale’s Gunnar Hatchock and Brandon Draper netted 10 apiece as the Pirates earned a 7:30 p.m. semifinals game Friday against Wellston. Wellston edged Davenport 47-38 in the first round, and Wellston and Macomb will square off at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.
